Birmingham Railway Heritage Week: Bringing Railway Heritage to Life
Birmingham railway heritage week is a great opportunity to celebrate the city’s rich railway history as part of the wider Birmingham Heritage Week. At PNP Events, railway heritage is particularly close to our hearts, with our immersive events helping to bring thousands of new visitors to heritage railways across the UK.
Bringing New Audiences to Heritage Railways
There is something very different about experiencing history rather than simply reading about it.
Our journey with heritage railways began at Wensleydale Railway in 2019 and has since expanded to South Devon Railway and Spa Valley Railway.
Every Christmas, these heritage railways welcome families for THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride, including many people who may never otherwise have considered visiting a heritage railway.
While guests come for the magic of THE POLAR EXPRESS™, they also get to experience the atmosphere and nostalgia of heritage rail travel. For children in particular, it can be their first experience of travelling aboard a historic train.

Why Immersive Events Matter for Railway Heritage
Heritage railways are an important part of Britain’s history, but keeping that heritage alive also means finding ways to engage new generations.
Immersive events can provide a completely new reason to visit. Families may initially come to meet Father Christmas, enjoy hot chocolate and step into the world of THE POLAR EXPRESS™, but along the way they discover the railway itself.
These events also bring large numbers of visitors to heritage railways during the Christmas period, supporting the railway and helping introduce it to audiences who may return for other experiences in the future.
THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Comes to Birmingham
The connection with Birmingham railway heritage week is particularly exciting for us in 2026, as PNP Events brings THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride to Birmingham Moor Street this Christmas.
Families will step aboard a heritage train and enter the world of THE POLAR EXPRESS™, combining the character and nostalgia of historic rail travel with the magic of the much-loved Christmas story.
It’s another opportunity to show how railway heritage can provide the perfect setting for modern immersive entertainment, creating new memories while celebrating the history of rail travel.

Keeping Railway Heritage on Track
As Birmingham railway heritage week shines a spotlight on the city’s railway history, we’re proud to play our own part in introducing people to heritage railways across the country.
From Wensleydale and South Devon to Spa Valley and now Birmingham, our work with THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride shows how immersive experiences can help connect nw audiences with Britain’s railway heritage.
Because sometimes, all it takes is a golden ticket to inspire a lifelong love of the railway.
A partnership built around the railway
Putting on an event of this scale isn't simply a case of bringing a show to a venue.
Every heritage railway is different.
Routes, platforms, carriages, timetables, infrastructure, volunteer teams and local communities all have their own characteristics. Our job is to work with those characteristics rather than against them.
At Wensleydale, South Devon and Spa Valley, our teams work alongside the people who understand their railways better than anyone.
PNP Events brings the immersive event expertise: theatrical production, casting, costumes, props, sets, sound, lighting, customer experience, marketing and large-scale event operations.
