Step Into Wonderland: The Mad Hatter’s Travelling Tea Party by PNP Events

In the summer of 2022, PNP Events invited guests to tumble down the rabbit hole and step into a world of imagination, colour and curiosity with the PNP Events Alice in Wonderland Experience, The Mad Hatter’s Travelling Tea Party.

Created as a vibrant summer counterpart to our winter productions, this fully immersive theatrical train experience brought Lewis Carroll’s beloved tale Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to life aboard a moving heritage railway.

A Magical Partnership with Heritage Railways

The Mad Hatter’s Travelling Tea Party first launched at Wensleydale Railway in July 2022. Following its success, the experience travelled to South Devon Railway in spring 2023, delighting families with a brand-new seasonal immersive event.

Having previously partnered with heritage railways to stage large-scale productions, PNP Events once again transformed historic railway settings into theatrical story worlds, this time reimagining them as the curious and colourful land of Wonderland.

This expansion demonstrated PNP Events’ ability to deliver immersive themed events across multiple UK locations beyond the festive season.

Travel Through the World of Alice in Wonderland

The PNP Events Alice in Wonderland Experience was designed as an interactive journey through Wonderland itself.

Guests boarded the train and were immediately immersed in a theatrical adventure where they joined Alice on her quest to find her way home. Throughout the journey, audiences encountered strange and curious inhabitants, solved riddles, and unravelled playful clues hidden within the performance.

Rather than simply watching a show, guests became part of the unfolding story.

This immersive Alice in Wonderland event in the UK combined:

  • Live character performances

  • Interactive storytelling

  • Themed carriage transformations

  • Audience participation

  • A fully scripted theatrical journey on board a moving train

It was Wonderland, but not as you’ve seen it before.

Meet the Iconic Characters of Wonderland

A highlight of The Mad Hatter’s Travelling Tea Party was the opportunity to engage directly with the story’s most beloved characters.

Guests met:

  • Alice

  • The White Rabbit

  • Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum

  • The Mad Hatter

Each character guided passengers through the adventure, sharing riddles, playful mischief and whimsical wisdom along the way.

The immersive format encouraged interaction, laughter and spontaneous moments, ensuring no two journeys were exactly the same.

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party On Board

No Alice in Wonderland experience would be complete without a tea party.

During the journey, guests were invited to take part in The Mad Hatter’s tea party, enjoying a selection of tasty treats served onboard the train. This charming addition elevated the experience, blending live theatre with themed hospitality.

The combination of storytelling, performance and dining created a truly multi-sensory event that appealed to both children and adults alike.

Dress Up and Capture the Magic

Guests young and old were encouraged to embrace the spirit of Wonderland by dressing as their favourite characters.

From miniature Mad Hatters to curious Alices, the costumes added to the immersive atmosphere and created wonderful photo opportunities with the cast.

These moments allowed families to capture lasting memories of their journey through Wonderland, a keepsake from a truly unique themed train experience in the UK.
